Serpentine Belt & Drive Belt Service

Depending on the vehicle, the serpentine belt may drive the alternator, A/C compressor, power-steering pump, and water pump. A failed belt can cause loss of charging, steering assist, or cooling.

Common symptoms

  • "I hear squealing from the engine on start"
  • "My power steering suddenly stopped working"
  • "My battery warning light came on while driving"
  • "I can see cracks in the belt"

What we check

  1. 01 Belt condition: cracks, glazing, missing chunks, contamination
  2. 02 Tensioner — for spring force and free movement
  3. 03 Idler pulleys — for bearing noise and free spin
  4. 04 Driven accessories—including the alternator, power-steering pump, and belt-driven water pump where applicable

Serpentine-belt replacement is a common mobile repair on many vehicles. We inspect the tensioner and pulleys whenever the belt is serviced.

Replacing only the belt while leaving a worn tensioner or pulley can lead to noise, belt damage, or repeat failure.

A note on shop equipment

Some repairs cannot be completed safely at a mobile location. After the diagnostic, we will tell you whether the work can be done on-site or whether shop equipment is required, before any repair begins.
