No-Start Diagnosis & Repair

A vehicle that will not start, cranks without firing, or starts intermittently usually has a problem in one of three systems: the starting circuit, the fuel system, or the ignition / control system. Replacing parts before testing rarely fixes the problem and often costs more.

Common symptoms

  • "My car won't start at all"
  • "I hear a single click when I turn the key"
  • "The engine cranks but never fires"
  • "It starts sometimes but not always"

What we check

  1. 01 Battery state-of-charge, cranking voltage, and parasitic draw if relevant
  2. 02 Starter current and the starting circuit (relays, grounds, neutral / clutch switch)
  3. 03 Fuel pressure and the operation of the fuel pump
  4. 04 Spark / ignition events on each cylinder
  5. 05 ECM communication, anti-theft / immobilizer status, and crank-no-start related codes

No-start conditions are well-suited to mobile diagnosis: the vehicle does not need to be towed, and the actual conditions at your location often help identify the cause.

Once the cause is found, common no-start repairs — battery replacement, starter replacement, sensor replacement, ignition components — can frequently be completed on-site.

A note on shop equipment

Some repairs cannot be completed safely at a mobile location. After the diagnostic, we will tell you whether the work can be done on-site or whether shop equipment is required, before any repair begins.
