Oil Leak Diagnosis & Repair

Oil keeps the engine lubricated and cooled. A small leak is usually not an emergency, but the source matters — some leaks worsen quickly, and oil dripping onto hot exhaust components is a fire risk.

Common symptoms

  • "I see oil spots where I park"
  • "I smell burning oil while driving"
  • "My oil level keeps dropping between changes"
  • "I see smoke coming from the engine bay"

What we check

  1. 01 Visual inspection from above and below to identify leak source
  2. 02 Common leak points: valve cover, oil pan gasket, filter housing, timing cover, rear main seal
  3. 03 PCV system function — over-pressurization can drive oil past seals
  4. 04 Oil condition and level, contamination signs

Identifying the actual source of a leak takes patience: oil tracks down the engine and the visible pool may be far from the leaking gasket. We clean the area, run the engine, and trace the leak to the highest point.

Many leak repairs — valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets on accessible engines, oil filter housings — can be completed at your location. Repairs that need engine support or disassembly may require a shop.

A note on shop equipment

Some repairs cannot be completed safely at a mobile location. After the diagnostic, we will tell you whether the work can be done on-site or whether shop equipment is required, before any repair begins.
