Overheating & Cooling System Repair

Overheating or coolant loss is never something to ignore. A cooling system that loses pressure, runs low, or fails to circulate properly can quickly cause warped heads, blown head gaskets, or full engine failure.

Common symptoms

  • "My temperature gauge is climbing into the red"
  • "I see steam from the hood"
  • "There's a puddle of coolant under my car"
  • "I smell something sweet after driving"

What we check

  1. 01 Pressure test of the cooling system to find leaks
  2. 02 Thermostat operation and coolant flow at temperature
  3. 03 Water pump operation, weep holes and bearing condition
  4. 04 Radiator hoses, expansion tank, and radiator cap rating
  5. 05 Cooling fan operation — both mechanical and electric
  6. 06 Combustion-gas test in coolant when a head gasket is suspected

Most cooling system work is well-suited to mobile repair: hose replacement, thermostat replacement, water pump replacement on many platforms, and bleeding of the system.

Heavier work — for example a head gasket on an engine that needs to come out — typically requires a shop. After the diagnostic we will tell you which category your repair falls into.

A note on shop equipment

Some repairs cannot be completed safely at a mobile location. After the diagnostic, we will tell you whether the work can be done on-site or whether shop equipment is required, before any repair begins.
